Our Story

Sam Martinez, a lifelong Austinite, was a man who believed in the Lord Jesus and loved sharing his faith with others. He believed in and was dedicated to going to church. Sam would always bring his granddaughter with him when he attended services. Soon the routine evolved into bringing not only his granddaughter, but about eight of her neighborhood friends. Sam eventually went to his friends Bobby Barker and Linda Foraker for help and advice; then the three began working together to bring all the children to church.

In 2007 they were granted permission from their pastor Rex Johnson to use the church van. Eight children grew into 14, 14 grew into 20, and 20 turned into 35 (ages 4-17, boys and girls). Before long, one church van wasn't enough so two vans are now being used for transporting the children from the inner-city to the church. Every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning, the vans go to the neighborhoods to pick up the children. It’s not only about bringing the children to church - it's involving them in events that will entertain, encourage, and help them get involved with building their Christian faith.

Sam passed away shortly after the bus ministry started. In his honor, Christian Life Church decided to name the ministry CLC Sam’s Kids. The endeavor is not just a Bus ministry; it's a Youth Outreach ministry that provides consistency and opportunities to share the love of Christ with the kids and their families. Even if the van only picks up one child for church, it's still a worthwhile experience and helps makes a difference in a young life.
